Subject: Well, that’s obviously not working. When Miss NC gets paid appearances, she gets paid more and she helps support the program. If she has the title, she should be willing to work for it. Subject Author Date But uh....isn't that why the business manager stepped up to the plate and volunteered to do the job? They knew from the get go it was a nonpaid position. Plus, it looks weird to have Miss NC calling people begging them to book her for an event. You are not going to get paid if you are calling them begging to come. That can be quite expensive and shouldn't have to come out of her earnings. If the winner of Miss NC has limited funds, this could be a problem for her. That fee structure compensated the Business Manager for their time, encouraged commission based sales from the Business Manager, and is similar to the rate structure of any modeling or talent agency booker. Not everything within a nonprofit has to be volunteer. There are plenty of paid positions within various nonprofit organizations. I've never understood why Miss America feels that everyone should be uncompensated. Perhaps that is one of it's failures. The only free events Miss NC should do during her year are attend preliminary pageants within the system when it fits in her schedule. All others should be paid. And they used to be unless it was something that SHE wanted to do pro bono. Why is she doing unpaid appearances? Who started this practice? It's ridiculous and it needs to stop. When you crown adult young women who have experience, they are mature enough to do these things.
