Subject: But uh....isn't that why the business manager stepped up to the plate and volunteered to do the job? They knew from the get go it was a nonpaid position. Plus, it looks weird to have Miss NC calling people begging them to book her for an event. You are not going to get paid if you are calling them begging to come.

In reply to: 's message, "Well, that’s obviously not working. When Miss NC gets paid appearances, she gets paid more and she helps support the program. If she has the title, she should be willing to work for it. The business manager is unpaid!" on 14:38:42 03/01/26 Sun

It's my understanding that Miss NC doesn't even have a gasoline budget. She is giving a car but has to put gas in it herself. That can be quite expensive and shouldn't have to come out of her earnings. If the winner of Miss NC has limited funds, this could be a problem for her. (NT)No name07:20:08 03/02/26 Mon
The Business Managers used to get paid 25% of the appearance fee. That fee structure compensated the Business Manager for their time, encouraged commission based sales from the Business Manager, and is similar to the rate structure of any modeling or talent agency booker. Not everything within a nonprofit has to be volunteer. There are plenty of paid positions within various nonprofit organizations. I've never understood why Miss America feels that everyone should be uncompensated. Perhaps that is one of it's failures. (NT)No name08:58:03 03/02/26 Mon
I don’t think it’s begging for Miss NC to find paid appearances. She should also be getting new sponsors, corporate sponsors. When you crown adult young women who have experience, they are mature enough to do these things. Probably not the young ones who have never paid their own way, paid for their own apartment or bought a house. It’s not hard, it just takes a little effort. (NT)No name09:19:26 03/03/26 Tue
