Subject: I never understood when the tide turned and the titleholder was expected to find sponsors, recruit contestants, secure bookings, etc. She is the talent and should be handled the way any model or talent agency handles their talent. And I completely agree....no more freebie appearances. Unless it's for certain charities and children's hospitals, and even then, there need to be ample opportunity for good photo ops. In regard to prize sponsors....Miss NC will only twirl in front of your mirror x number of times before you have to start ponying up more than the loan of a dress for a few hours . The title of Miss North Carolina should have some cache. However, with all these free appearances and twirling around in front of a gown store mirror for social media posts, she is going to get the reputation that she will show up for the opening of a bag of potato chips.. . Let these stores start booking and paying professional models to shill for their stores and they will see what a bargain they are getting. Plus, since most of these gown stores do a big business in pageant wear, they are getting the extra cache of the Miss NC title that not even a professional model could bring. And yes, these girls work long and hard to win the Miss NC title. There should definitely be benefits to winning the crown. There should be a car, apartment, and appearance fees. That's why you enter a competition. Because there are prizes for the winner. That's the very point of a competition.
