I'm writing a research paper on pro-anaorexic websites and I was hoping you might be able to help me out. I have several questions concerning the subject and I was just wanting your opinions/feelings. I want to be completely honest with you, I'm not exactly for pro-ana sites, but more than anything, I just don't understand them. I don't feel like I can write a very good paper or even pretend to be knowledgeable about the subject at hand when I don't understand it. That's where I was hoping you would help me out. If you wouldn't mind taking the time to answer and expand on my questions, I'd really appreciate it. I also want to make it clear that I know some of these questions may lead you to believe that I'm attacking you, but honestly, that's not my intention. It's just that when thinking about pro-ana sites, these are the questions that automatically pop into my head. I'd really appreciate your thoughts/opinions/feelings on the questions and feel free to tell me anything else that you feel or wish to explain to me. I don't want to think incorrectly or improperly about something just because I don't know enough about it. Also, in these questions, I'll phrase them as "why do anorexics do this or that," but obviously, I know that anorexics are people and different people do different things for different reasons. I know it's a horrible way to word things, but due to my lack of a better way, I'm forced to do it like that. I just want your personal thoughts/feelings/opinions concerning pro-ana sites and eating disorders in general.
• Why do people choose to be anorexic?
• Do pro-ana sites offer safe, healthy, and responsible tips for losing weight?
• Are pro-ana sites actually there for other people's sake or just to find comfort for ones' self?
• People were created to live/survive by eating, so why should people feel guilty for doing so?
• From what I've read, anorexics often feel judged by society, but as a whole, do anorexics judge people that are overweight or those that overeat?
• Who are anorexics trying to look thin for?
• Are you happy? Does starving yourself make you feel happier or more fulfilled?
• Why are anorexics not happy with themselves/their bodies without being extremely thin?
• What do anorexics find attractive?
• Why do anorexics never feel thin enough?
• What is the purpose of pro-ana sites? What are they trying to achieve?
• Do you honestly feel like pro-ana sites are safe?
• Do you feel like anorexics are perceived incorrectly by society?
• Are you honestly satisfied with yourself as an anorexic?
• What do you hope to accomplish by being anorexic?
Like I said before, I know these questions may make it seem like I'm attacking you, but that's not at all the case. All I'm hoping to achieve by asking these questions is a better understanding as to why anorexics feel/think/act the way they do. I don't want to automatically jump to conclusions when I know nothing about what you feel and why you do the things you do. I don't want people to do that with me, so I don't want to do that with you. I know that not being anorexic may make it impossible for me to completely understand, but still, I hope to gain a better understanding than I do at present. Again, any information you can provide me with will be very appreciated. If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. And if you know someone who might also like to give me their thoughts/opinions/feelings concerning the subject, feel free to forward them this e-mail. Thanks again for your time!
