Subject: A new page for some unidentified helmet designs

At the very bottom of the website index I've added a page for some unidentified helmet designs; I'll add more as I run across them! Visitors to the website are also welcome to submit additions.

One (#53) was identified while I was doing other research, but I'll leave it on the page for now.

#57 may be Pensacola Navy.

Perhaps; I have no information whatsoever on that team. It seems analogous to Quantico Marine Corps Base, so I'd probably add it to the website if any helmet design information could be found.

I was suspecting that #57 might be Northeast Louisiana University but had not seen any other indication of NLU having used yellow helmets that year. They did use a rare 'vertical oval' logo several years later, but it was on white helmet shells.

[> #52 TCNJ Lions -- Pete, 12:06:04 02/24/23 Fri (97.122.64.167)

AWESOME!!!!!

I was hoping you would get back to this!
It is so FUN!

Of course, I was hoping to get stuff done around the house this weekend. But for now, I guess not!

Anyway, #52 is possibly the College of New Jersey Lions or as they were known back in 1978, Trenton State.

I had to peruse TCNJ student newspapers (The Signal) from 1977. I checked out 1978 but all of the images of helmets were logoless.

Check out the very last page.

Probably gold helmets with a navy blue logo. Gray FM.

Onward!

# 51 is the Coe College Kohawks!

I was going around in circles with Ripon yearbooks and found a faint photo from the 1987 Yearbook that got me on track.
Found football schedule:

https://riponredhawks.com/documents/2021/11/12//Year_By_Year_Results.pdf?id=2147

and researched opponents and specifically, colors!

If link does not work, check out 1988 Coe College yearbook, page 22.

I thought that one might be either Simpson or Coe, due to the red and yellow colors. What on earth is that logo, though?

[> #55 is Cal State Northridge Matadors -- Pete, 14:46:07 02/24/23 Fri (97.122.64.167)

I am certain # 55 is the defunct Cal State Northridge Matadors

I really wish I could get a clear photo of their helmet but I didn't have much luck.

I was able to find Nevada opponents for 1977 and ruled out most teams.

Here is a link to the Sunburst 1979 YB

(download part 3 and go to pages 20 and 21 for photos)

#56 is the Beloit Buccanners

They wore this helmet for at least 1969

Pages 53, 77 and 78

The logo is a sword and a hat!

#54 is the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats

Their is already a pretty decent B&W photo of this logo on this web site.
They may have only wore this logo for 1970-1971

Also, in their 1972 yearbook, their are a few good photos of this helmet on page 100.
