Unidentified helmet design #63 is...

The Adams State Grizzlies!
(Or at least I think it is!)

I had to do a process-of-elimination from the Colorado School of Mines 1970 schedule:
https://college-football-results.com/f/colomine.htm

Montana Tech: Copper or silver? No logo. Some with a single stripe. Green?

Northern Colorado: Yellow/gold. Blue-white-blue stripe pattern. White "C" inside blue oval-like shape

Westminster: Purple. White Fleur-de-lis (already listed under small defunct schools)

Southern Utah: White. Red "S" over red "U"

Western New Mexico: Yellow/gold. Purple? numbers

Fort Lewis: Gold. No logo or stripe

Western Colorado: Red. White "W"

Nebraska-Kearney: Dark Blue. No logo or stripe (already listed under Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Assoc)

Adams State: White with unknown logo. Possibly green. Also green stripe?

Colorado State-Pueblo: Red or blue. White stripe. White "SC"

Colors are designated school colors but entirely based on my speculation (except Westminster and Nebraska-Kearney)

Here is another possible sighting of this elusive helmet:
https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=ODG19701117-01.2.38&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN--------0------
(page 7)

Until November 1995 they were known as the Indians.

More Unidentified helmet designs please!

Thanks, that seems likely. The logo may be a cartoon "Indian" like the old Cleveland Indians logo - it at least has a similar shape.

Any clue on the other #63?

I think it's Cameron but they also wore gold Helmets the year before so who knows.

Sorry, that should have been labeled '#64' (fixed now).

Cameron seems a possibility, along with NMHU, WNMU, Southwestern Oklahoma, Central Oklahoma, and maybe even Fort Hays State - I don't think I have any definite information for any of those schools for that year. The helmet color is not clear, and I think it could be any of black, purple, or dark blue.

In another photograph in the ENMU 1976 yearbook an opposing player wearing the same helmet has a yellow or orange color in his socks, so I would think that would lean towards Cameron, WNMU, or UCO. If I had to bet on one now, I'd probably go with UCO.

Of the schools mentioned here I have checked recently to see if I could locate digitized yearbooks for WNMU, NMHU, and Cameron (not found, at least for 1976), but not the other schools. I thinks Southwest Oklahoma's yearbooks are available but I have not looked at them. Unsure about Fort Hays and UCO.

It's not Fort Hayes (They wore blank Black Helmets, also their yearbooks are super accessible)

It's not Southwestern Oklahoma either, you already have their mid 1970s helmet up on the site as c.late 70s

Notice the Jersey is white, I suspect it's an away team and that likely leaves the following

WNMU/Southern Colorado (CSU-Pueblo)/Cameron/UCO/NM Highlands

Off the bat I know it's not CSU-Pueblo/Southern Colorado, their helmet was a light color with an "SC" decal on it.

Otherwise it's one of the other four

Also if you need a bunch of FHSU Info I got a decent amount I can post for you

Charles and Dave,

Could it be NM Highlands? This photo is from 1974 but it looks like it could be a match?

I'm on vacation so I can't do much. research. If link doesn't work, try Easter NM digital student newspaper archives.

Maybe, it does look like it could be the school seal - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico_Highlands_University#/media/File%3ANew_Mexico_Highlands_University_seal.svg

Thanks, that's probably correct, as I think a triangular-shape is faintly visible inside the circle.
