Subject: NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision: 2018 complete orders

Better late than never (after many events got in the way), but here are the complete orders for the NCAA FBS/Division I-A teams for the 2018 season.

All teams will have all of their new designs for this year described in this post identified with a letter (or letters, should a team go beyond 26 documented designs since the multiple-helmet madness went into effect). If any new design has not appeared on the Helmet Project as of this posting, a link to the photo gallery containing that design will also appear.

Although the Heart of Dallas Bowl was officially deemed a “no-contest” due to lightning, their participants’ designs were already known and are reflected here.

Houston has altered their logo to remove the beveling in the “UH”. Because of this, the order I compiled for the Cougars differs substantially from Mr. Arey’s order. Temple has alternated between stripes and no stripes for several games; these are also reflected here. All other orders for this division are connected and checked with what is already posted.

Speaking of constant changes, asymmetrical designs continue to torment us. One would think the ugly aesthetics would die down, but the teams that continue to employ that design faux pas seem to double down on them. There’s a reason that the Steelers should be the only team that should do them, and it is not employed by the majority of football teams at all levels.

For the first time in a while, there will be no new conference realignments in the FBS. 2019 will mark the 150th anniversary of college football (for everyone except Harvard at least). It would be nice to see “150” decals in the same way as the “100” football decals from 1969, but with the way college athletics branding works now, it might be relegated to the back of the helmet at best. Hopefully at least Rutgers and Princeton can commemorate this landmark year with a new design, but as for the others, who knows?

In the future, I may not be able to post weekly updates, both to avoid cluttering the board and due to limited time, but I will continue to keep track of the FBS and write up a summary post for all teams at the end of the season, hopefully this time within the week of the National Championship game.
