First let's let the season end before we judge it. If it ends with a Valpo win Sunday then yes, Oakland had a very bad season and Kampe is responsable for that. Did he do a bad job coaching, on the surface one would have to say yes, but I don't think he just all of the sudden got dumb. Lots of things went wrong and I just trust that he has been very good for a very long time that he is smart enough to know what went wrong and what didn't. When this season is over I will voice my opinion of what I believe was the problem, but until then i think it is just better to see what happens this weekend. Again I will say that every great coach has had bad years from coach K to Dean Smith to Bobby Knight, you name it. Things often happen out of the coaches control. As for our team this year, we can't make free throws. That has cost us at least 6 games. Is that the coaches fault, some people would say yes, others would say no.
As for your league question, I didn't see the league back then, but a league is a league. Your in a league because you are suppose to be on level playing ground, so I would question that it was tougher to win back then, also Kampe lost all of his players when we made the transition. He completely started over, all freshman and walk-ons that first year. Only one player who played the last year of d-2 was on the team when we played our first year of d-1. After how long it took Valpo to become a power, I think you would understand how lucky Oakland fans have been to have the instant success that we have had.
