Sac State plays all their big sports (football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and gymnastics) on campus. The football field would be ok if only they put in permanent seats [a Davis fan (an attorney, no less) fell through the seats a few years ago]. Track is in the same facility as the football team (funded by Alex Spanos, of all people). The baseball and softball fields are ok, but home runs destroy car windows in the parking structure out in left field. The basketball teams used to play downtown in a place more suitable for plays; the lighting sucked. Now they share a gym with the volleyball team and the gymnastics team; the gym at Lodi High is better for any of those sports. All in all, UOP has a much better situation than Sac. And it will always be like that because whenever a proposal comes in to improve things, the administration gets cold feet and backs out. Case in point: the football weight room was NOT built with school money, but with outside donations and back-breaking labor on the part of the running backs coach (a former player from Stockton) and several players. Such goings on would never happen in Tiger Town! GO TIGERS!!!
