Subject: saving space

the area on the front page is of limited space,as im sure most of your indoor growing spaces are.
i`ve found that you can control the size of your plants.
carful pruning, and even root pruning can help you save space in your home, allowing a more diverse varity of plants.

I'm always trying to find ways to fit more plants in. Most of mine aren't too big yet. I use shelves with lights in them so I can have plants stacked. Amazing how many you can get into a small space if you really want to. But then Mama Nature is like that. The number and variety of plants in different plces astounds me.

I go for that jungle layered look... I have ONE front window, and all (ALL) of my house plants have to go in front of it. This year, the Xmas tree got displaced rather than the plants. I have 18 plants in front of a 5 1/2 x 6 foot window. My couch, a table, a book case, the fountain, artwork, the phone, and a chair share the space within four feet of this window. And some of these plants are LARGE.

I find that I like the look of plant stands that stagger each plant. One on top of the table, one on the floor. I have to stage and arrange the rest on large tins, lifts, and other props, but I get them all in.

Spring fever is the worst, when I HAVE to move them around because of that Nest Restlessness. That is a terrible feeling! Please tell me it will go away when my son leaves home, and it's no longer a nest, but a swingers pad... well sort of.

I am hoping to have wondrous pics soon, but... the camera will not accomodate any software less than Win98 (bite me!) so I have to send off for patch software. I have to download scanner software, and I have other things more pressing at this time of year. I still do not have my out-of-state packages ready to go...

I need to go now!

Sons change their mailing addresses but tend to be around for a long time. Sorry to rain on your parade, Cena.

And sometimes they drop off the edge of the planet for months at a time.

They still think your refrigerator has their name on it.

maybe i wasnt paying attention, but i didnt know you had a son at home.how old?
my son ,eric,is shipping out for bootcamp on the 16th on january, then he`ll be home for a week, then he`ll be living in gorgia.talk about stress,or am i being a wuss?

do you downsize your plants in the way i described?
i have at least 50 in area 51(many small though),and i find kepping them cut back a big help.

Den, I've another friend whose son is preparing to ship out :( I believe that definitely IS stress. Why the world is set up so young ones defend our differences is beyond me.
It's definitely pruning time here. For years my DD has believed my bay window should be the Christmas tree site. BUZZ!wrong! But I did give it a whole room of its own this year. Such luxury, this big place.
Actually, my plants are pruning themselves. My place is the north unit of a duplex, and with the sun on the south horizon they are definitely not pleased with the light situation. New plants are Reaching For The Sky. I keep telling them to hang on, Solstice is on its way!

Hi PerL! My windows face west....window really. I have a patio door that also faces west. Challenging.

Denny, no, you aren't being a wuss. Any parent would be very concerned about having a son ship out, even stateside. He's in the Army isn't he? My fingers are crossed that he won't see combat; if not, this could be a really great opportunity for him. Would I want to be in your place? Not in a million years.

Batty aka Iris

Denny, you have every right to be stressed, but you know of course, they have their own minds, ideas, and lives to live...it's hard sometimes. I'll be thinking of you and of him. I'm sure he knows how much you love him, and that's the important thing.

Hi perLite!

Hey, Batty aka Iris...It's so good to see you! I've missed you...alot.

My son insists that he is going to live with us forEVER... He has already had the lecture about how Dad only signed up for 18 years, every year after that is on a Lease Option.

I feel for ya Denny, but he might actually like it. Well, at least find a space he's comfortable in. I about swallowed the turkey whole Thanksgiving when my son announced to the room in general that he had a girlfriend. MIL's new squeeze asked if I knew this young lady and all I could say was "Not yet..."

Any change that is one step closer to them having their own life without you seems to be more painful for the parent than the child, I think. I may find I'm full of crap here soon, but that's my answer today, and I'm sticking to it!
