Bonsai is a style of treatment, not a variety. Is it a dwarf ficus, possibly? Dwarfs are often used as subjects for bonsai. The smaller structure lends itself to the illusion bonsai stives to achieve.

i think the common name refers to the shape of the tree,a drawf maybe,as you said.
i do bonsai so i dont think for one minute its a bonsai.
