I will send Badhbh, to some extent: I think the first one is too plain, and the second complicated for the sake of being complicated, not for the sake of better writing. In Ancient Realm standards, the second would be considered beautiful writing, and, though it is to some extent, it is too wordy to be useful. The first one, however, could use some dressing up a bit... pehraps:

Serenity of the field was broken only by the faint sounds of mastication as the mare lipped at the tender green shoots of early spring. Her mane lifted in a silver ripple, wind running playful fingers through the pewter locks. Her footfalls fell in a simple counterpoint to the strains melody issuing from accross the landscape. Visage cocked slightly in response to the snippits of music...the song of the wild ones.
