You bring attention to an important point, Karn. The treatment of B/A by Angel needs to be addressed because alot of people haven't been discussing it outside or on any of the boards I've been to besides the B/A boards.

WHY ISN'T ANGEL SHOWING ANY SORT OF REMORSE BUFFY-WISE???

I understood the get-away retreat to clear his head, but after that we heard nothing about his affection for his former-lover. I didn't understand that. All of the B/A from seasons 2 and 3 was phenomenal. ("You still my girl?" "Always.") I watch the end of Becoming (best shows they've ever made in my opinion) Part II and I still cry.

Then she dies in Season 5.

The first thing that I thought of was oh, God, Angel's going to be crushed! Then what did we get? Nothing. No tears, no falling onto his knees and crying out her name. I got the impression that he didn't even go to her grave to pay his last respects.

He didn't do anything, apparantly, but brood and depart for parts unknown, fight demons, and then show up again wearing pastel blue and earth green with a big grin on his face.

WTF???

All I can say is that this is due to the UPN switch. If BTVS was still on the WB, then we would have seen alot more B/A interaction. As a former fan of the ship, (until the unpleasantness, and the loveliness that is Darla in S2 ATS) I have to say that I was a bit disillusioned. It was just another case of disregard for Canon again. The TPTB can do no wrong bit. (Shrugs shoulders resolutely)

The whole situation threw me, but like I just did recently with B/S, I decided to let it go and move on. I have no power over the decisions of executives.

Still, there are feelings of anger.

Another classic ship got cheated out of what should have been one of the most moving moments since Angel's death. We saw how Buffy reacted when he died, why didn't Angel do the same?

The only answers that I can find are in what has been happening on ATS lately. We saw Angel rebuild himself so to speak, learning to live for other things besides Buffy, like his friends in Los Angeles and humanity itself. For too long his love for her was the only thing that kept him wanting more. He wanted more for her. I know, another kick in the face. If that's true, we should have seen more crying and sobbing after Buffy's death. Tragic that this was for some reason stomped on.

But besides Canon and the show and the characters and growth, here is a very valid reason that I found for all of this, for those of us who decided to let go of BTVS all together. ATS has to become its own show. For the past two years, it has been "BTVS-- Part II. Angel goes to Los Angeles." It should just be, "Angel, another warrior for the TPTB goes to Los Angeles, to fullfill his destiny and fight evil, leaving what he's learned in Sunnydale behind." (I know its cheesy, but I'm just trying to communicate a point here) In order to do that, he has to move on from Buffy. And because of this UPN switch, this move has been forced, and the writers are trying to force him into another ship as quickly as possible. I always knew that this was going to happen, but I expected it to be gradual, and with more respect for B/A. Joss betrayed us.

(She shrugs her shoulders again, it happens. After what happened to S/D, I wish I could have a more liberal attitude, but I've learned to take things in stride.)

You are right, though, ATS should not have disparaged B/A the way that BTVS did. Unfortunately, the way that I see it, they didn't have much choice with the way that UPN was pushing B/S, trying to create their own version of B/A. But the abandoning of B/A was necessary for the show to break all ties with BTVS and start on their own.

And, it's doing a very good job starting over on its own without BTVS. ANGEL has been beating BTVS in ratings since the return of Darla. (insert enthusiastic applauding and smiles here)

Fact is, ATS was wrong for disparaging B/A, but after the switch, what choice did they have?
