Hi Steve,
first, the shop manuals DO include the wiring diagrams so no need to worry on that score. The other piece of literature that I find very useful as a novice is the parts fiche...that shows blow-up pics of all the assemblies on the car with part names and numbers. We converted these to CD awhile ago and since then the Porsche Electronic Parts catalogue has become widely available(PET5)..this is like the parts fiche but for all Porsche models/years thru, I think, '99 or '00. You can find them on ebay in the $10-20 range. I've been supplying the partsfiche CDs for the same price range but if you can buy the more complete set, why bother. The only thing you don't get on the PET is the parts number index where you can look up a part number and see where it goes...limited use..maybe to check if an ebay part is something you can use. The graphic quality of the PET is also better since the CDs I've got are scans from the microfiche

We also converted the shop manual microfiche to CD..same issues as with the partsfiche, usable but no where near the clarity of the hard copy and some of the later year wiring diagrams w large pages and small type are tough to read. I'm working on converting the shop manual to pdf but it'll be awhile yet.
I'll be out of town for a week so email me directly if you have any follow up questions. BTW, the MOST valuable "literature" out there are the web sites people have put up on various procedures..can't beat BTDT for the real low-down on what's involved in a given project. And,of course, this list and rennlist are invaluable...tremendous expertise out there and very helpful folks!

Jim
