Hi Holly,
If you are talking about the strain families... that does come from the tail female line of ancestry. There is a large reference section of horses on my site. You can look there... and with the pedigree of your horse..find an ancestor in the database. Whatever strain the tail female is, your mare is...
In the case of BSA Latifa, your strain is Dahmah Shahwaniyah (the more common male version of this strain name is Dahman Shahwan). I looked up the tail female line, and through the mare, *Bint Nefisaa, it was easy to find your strain.
In the case of Fahda EAO, an imported mare, the strain is also Dahmah Shahwaniyah (Dahman Shahwan). This mare was imported to the USA in 1984 and owned by the PFG Trust of Florida.
In many cases you can look through my database and find pictures as well as pedigrees and ownership information of the ancestor horses.
