Marty

It was sad you chose to feel belittled over the previous posting.
That was certainly not the intention of the msg.

It seems my attempt to make light of the situation fell a bit flat (I should have noticed things weren't that well thought out when I clicked the sad face instead of the happy face!)

Believe it or not, I actually think good on you for voicing your opinions!

Refereeing will probably always be hotly contested and its great when people are prepared to publicly debate points: in doing so, it is important to realise that not everyone will agree with a particular point of view (some might even strongly disagree), but that it doesn't neccessarily equate to a value judgement on the personality of a particular person.

Some of your comments could also be taken as personal attacks, but instead I focussed on the points you were attempting to illustrate :o)

In your msg you raise some examples which appear to be poor calls made by referees. I think its important to accept that although refs do try their best they can't always see everything, or from the vantage point of being on the water right in the midst of it.
Additionally, an event viewed from the water several meters away, could be obscured by other boats, paddles and bodies: where as the ref standing on the sideline may have the better line of site.

As a ref, I genuinely do try to ref to the best of my ability. It doesn't always happen however, and I think that has something to do with being human.

I'm pleased to say that there were quite a few positive comments about the refereeing over the weekend, from National League players and also spectators. Which was neat!!! A HUGE thanks to all those who reffed and helped out:O)

At the start of the comp I'm pretty sure there were:
8 Regionally qualified Refs
4 District refs
that were registered to ref at the comp. I think we did well despite needing 4 refs at any given time.

As for ICF: I think postings by Marty Bell and Troy Lipsham have done a better job of clarifying the whys and hows than I could.

Cheers
Becks
