No Type 3's ever had brackets on the axel tubes, however short axels only run till 1965 on bugs so the gearbox and shafts could be from a 66-67 car or even from a later car, does it cruise like a type three? if so it could be a 1500 type 1 box.

When exchanging gear boxes keep the original nose cone and hockey stick and instal them on the new box as type 1 items are often different.
