The men of the 25th Medical Dispensary, 44th Medical Brigade honored me by making me an honary member of their command. This came about due to a poem that I wrote that was printed in a newspaper from here in WV. I am looking for SSG, NCOIC EDWARD E. KRANZMAN, SP5 CHARLES R. ONEY, and any other members of the 25th.

I was attached to the 25th Div. at Cu-Chi and was sent by truck to Tay Nihn to pick-up some doctors and we convoyed to a town called Dau Tieng where we set up at a forward medical clearing station in anticipation of some operation. I remember troops massed at the edge of an airfield and a rather large helicopter force loading up for some kind of assault. I believe this was in the first two weeks of January 1967. Can anyone put this in a historical context for me or were you there? It was so long ago, it seems like a dream. I'm trying to find out what operation this was part of, and perhaps some dates. If you have information or were there, please email me.

3d Platoon, C Company, 2d Battalion, 3d Infantry (The Old Guard), 199th Light Infantry Brigade (Separate). On April 18, 1966, near Tan Son Nhut Airbase, our patrol was attacked by a sniper. We returned fire, but like times before, the enemy just ran when the shooting started.
We searched for him for a while before making a short stop on a trail on a mud dike. I had just finished eating a pineapple and turned to go in the opposite direction when I heard a muffled explosion that sounded like a grenade going off in a bunker. Almost immediatley, I felt a stinging sensation in my foot, and fell to the ground. I don't remember all the details after that, except I noticed my foot was bleeding and then that my hand was bleeding. I felt a slight numbness in my right shoulder and lower on my back, just above the waist. I had been hit and was more helpless than I had been since I was a child. I was in a hostile place surrouned by enemies. I could not run, because of my foot wound and fractured foot. I could not shoot because my trigger finger tendon was severed. I was bleeding somewhere in my back, but of course I could not see it.
Two other soldiers were wounded, SP4 Edgar Recob of Wisconsin and an Popular Forces (Vietnamese) trooper.
Fortunately, I was covered by God and his angels in the form of my fellow soldiers. They saved my life. They all rushed over to help, but the patrol leader, SGT George Edmonds of Chicago, ordered security out to ward of any attacks. I waited for a few minutes while our medic, SP4 Fritz Daub, now of Pennsylvania, tended the other two and finally got to me. It was probably less than 10 minutes before he was able to get over to me, but I did not feel any great pain, which was surprising to me then and now. I only remember I felt a stinging sensation. In about a half hour or less a medivac chopper picked us up and took us to the field hospital at the Saigon airbase. I had two operations in country. Received my Purple Heart and was shippped to Japan.
Ultimately I made a full recovery and returned to stateside duty in about September. I want to thank all my 199th unit teammates and the medical personnel who helped my.

Can anyone remember, being with PFC Earl Russell Cobb on or around September 4, 1967? Russell was my best friend and I've always wanted to find out exactly what took place on the day he gave the Ultimate Price for his country (9/4/1967). Russell was a wild and crazy guy. He always liked to take chances when we were growing up together. Russell was in CO. A 22 Inf./25th Inf. Division. He took his last breath;, some where in the Tay Ninh area of Nam. I would just feel better knowing what really was happening on the day he died. The last letter I received from him was written in red ink and he told me about the Pontaic Firebird he was planning on getting, when he got home. Well, he never made it home. I would just like to know the true facts about what happened. I helped carry Russell to his final resting place at the Ward Cemetery on Kellys Creek, which is about 1 mile out of the town of Cedar Grove, WV. Russell's death made me wise up and sign up for 3 years. I ended up being a 62B30 Heavy equipment mechanic with CO. A 46th Eng. Bn.,69-70 based at Long Binh.

A piece of shrapnel went through my boot, but if that truck hadn't come along that round would have landed right on me. Three cooks in the tent were wounded. Remember?

I spent Christmas of "67" in a place in Vietnam that no one ever heard of unless they had personally been there called Phu Hiep as a member of the 339th Transportation Co. (DS) Rotory Wing. What I really remember was that I was getting to be a short timer, cause I was to return to the States in January where I would see my daughter for the first time, since she was born in October. I remember that it didn't really feel like Christmas because as a farm boy from Idaho I was use to having snow and the wind blowing, so no snow and no wind to speak of, it didn't really have the feel of Christmas for me.

I am a 1st Cav vietnam vet trying to help a good friend
locate any history on his old unit in Vietnam. He was a Sgt e-6 Gordon Gifford who was in A Company 326th Engineers working out of Phan Rang in 66-67. He says his detachment was assigned to the Americal Div. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I have searched for websites of the 326th and can't find anything.

hello back in the 1970's my mom bought a bracelet with the name Major Charles Greene Jr. with the date 3-11-67. The Wall That Heals came to town, and it was discovered that he is still alive. She wanted me to see if i could find him and let him know that she has his bracelet. She also would like to thank him, and let him know she prayed for his safe return. If anyone is able to drop me a line on his whereabouts. thank you Lise Stewart

I was assigned to the 1883rd from June 1967 until June 1968 and worked in the communications center as a crypto repairman. I have lost touch with the men I served with over the years and would like to get in touch with some of my old friends.

For all of us in the 9th Infantry Division's 4th/47th Battalion who survived the battle near Ap Bac Village in the Mekong Delta, June 19th will never be forgotten. Nor will we ever forget the many gallant soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice that fateful day. Our Web Site: www.9thinfantrydivision.com is dedicated to preserving the memory of the 4th/47th Battalion.
