I must have waived to you as I was leaving. I left Vietnam for the States in June, 1968. I served in B Co., 2/28, 1st Inf. Div. Leaving was a lot better than arriving.

I am looking for the exact date or very close to it that the Newport bridge over the Saigon River on highway 1A was hit and a section blown out by VC sappers. If you know this info please respond.

June 20, 1968 - at 4:03 p.m. the Dong Ha combat base main ammo dump took a direct hit of a couple of rounds. We were located next to the dump (NSAD) on the hill. If memory serves me correctly -it blew up for a total of 36 hrs. At 11pm we came out of our bunker, when the word was passed that a ground assault against us was believed to be coming. I thought - how stupid Charlie must be -coming in when everything else was going out! Laid up against a sandbag wall for hours. At one point the compound mutt "Hootch Pooch" got up and ran, and then a piece of shrapnel struck where he had been. I told Sonny Brigman, to put the dog between us, and when he runs - we would run! Funny now - but not then! thanks for listening to the story. marty

Seeking any information on Medics assigned to 6th Bn 31st Infantry. Trained at Ft Lewis Washington and went over as a unit. I went through Ft Sam, arrived at Ft Lewis Washington early November, requested immediate assignment and went over before 6th Bn 31st shipped over. I transferred back to the 6th Bn 31st, HHC Company, when they arrived at Bear Cat.I was with B Compnay when I was hit the last time on 30 June 1968. Along with Ken Rogers and Lupe Duran. Trying to locate Robert Demming, SFC Vancovering, Huber P Heinz, Glen Smith, charles St Clair, any Medics that trained at Ft Lewis and later in Vietnam.

Charles: I am doing a detailed research on 6/31 in VN including documenting all KIA/WIA's as to what happened. Please get in touch with me, as I have a database of names I keep in touch with that were there.

>>There was a bridge dammaged by VC Sappers on Highway 1A at the western approach to Saigon. A large slab was blown from the bridge and there were VC KIA. There was also a tatical air support bomb dropped. Early June I believe. I think it was called the Newport bridge but am not positive. Seeking any and all records of this event.
