Dear Bob,
Just a thought!
From birth to marriage is a relatively long time, being a collier can only be imagined as a difficult job then as it is now, and becoming harder as the years went by. It would have become more appealing to become a cotton spinner in an area where silk and cotton spinning jobs would have been plentiful and money regular.
An injury may have forced him to change.
