Subject: ~*~Rising Star~*~ Chapter 9-THE END! Finally! Let me know what you think!

~Chapter 9~
"Should I add a lot of butter or a little?" Zahra called out from the kitchen. She tentatively held the butter over the bowl of freshly popped popcorn, awaiting the general consensus of the group. Justin was busy pouring various drink and arranging them onto a tray.

Justin paused from his task and turned around. "What kind of question is that, girl?" Justin said with animated gestures and in a feminine fashion. "Of course more butter." Justin snapped his finger for emphasis.

"Justin, you do that whole Jack from 'Will and Grace' thing a little too well. Is there something we should know?" Zahra said jokingly as she added globs of butter.

"Oh, don't even go there," Justin continued, turning around and resuming his job with a huff.

"Aww, you know I'm just messin with you," Zahra said, stepping behind Justin and messing up his hair.

"Z!" Three voices called out from the media room.

"Come, quick!" JC yelled, calling out with urgency. Without a second's hesitation, Zahra ran out of the kitchen as fast as she could with Justin on her heels.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Zahra asked as she bounded into her room.

"Look, it's your song!" JC pointed excitedly towards the television set. After a second of confusion, Zahra turned her face towards the direction JC was indicating. "It's the commercial with a song off of Raaz's album."

"Ahh, that's so cool!" JC watched with a smile as Zahra began showing the excitement. He knew this was a big moment for her and he was glad he was able to share it with her. "I still can't believe they did that!" JC walked over to Zahra and gave her a big hug. The two were soon joined by the other guys and found themselves in the middle of a group hug.

"Ok, ok, that's enough," JC said, as he tried to pull away. "Let's get this movie started." The guys disentangled themselves from the hug one by one. Before JC let go of Zahra completely, he planted a light kiss on her lips to reinforce his happiness for her accomplishment.

"Come on, Ms. Timberlake, we have some food to haul in here," Zahra said, grabbing Justin by the collar of his shirt and dragging him away.

Ten minutes later, the DVD was slid into the player and the room was stocked with sodas and other various drinks, along with plenty of food to munch on. Lance sat comfortably on the floor, with a bean bag beneath him. Joey was positioned sideways on an arm chair. Chris was up on the couch, leaning against the arm and Justin sat on the floor in front of him. JC was on the floor, leaning against the other end of the couch. As Zahra made her way from the tv to a spot on the floor, JC patted the floor in front of him indicating for her to sit between his legs and lean against him.

Zahra made her comfortable against JC and pointed the remote towards the player to start the movie. All the lights were turned off to add to the effect of the movie.

As the DVD player started up, JC began thinking about how talented Zahra was. "We should produce something together sometime," JC said, voicing his thoughts.

"Josh, sweetie," Zahra began softly. "If that's you're idea of talking dirty, then I think you need to work on it more. Maybe one of the other guys could give you some pointers." JC watched as a smile crept across Zahra's face and even though she was making fun of him, JC felt even more attracted to her at that moment. "Chris, you're the oldest, share some of your wisdom with Josh, he needs help."

"Oh you think you're such a smart ass, don't you," JC said, pretending to be upset. He looked at Zahra slyly as he made his move for revenge. Taking advantage of Zahra's position, JC began tickling Zahra mercilessly. She squirmed and writhed, but he didn't let up.

"Oh stop! Help!" Zahra managed to get out while gasping for air. When JC didn't let up, Zahra tried to get away from him. "Justin, man, help me," Zahra pleaded.

Justin looked at the couple in amusement. He knew it was wise to stay out of their moment, as did the other guys. JC continued to tickle Zahra for another few minutes before stopping and allowing her to straighten herself out.

"Oh you suck!" Zahra said breathlessly as she pulled herself back up to a sitting position.

"No, that's your job," JC shot back. To his amusement, a dark shade of red crept onto Zahra's face as his words registered in her mind.

"You pervert!" Zahra said jokingly. "I think I'm going to go sit with Chris on the couch. Scoot over." Zahra picked up Chris's feet and dropped them on the ground, forcing him to sit up.

"Aww, come back," JC pouted. Zahra remained on her spot on the couch so JC just went over and sat on the ground in front of her, leaning against her legs.

"Okay, if you two lovebirds are done with you're little spat, the rest of us would like to watch the movie sometime today," Joey said impatiently.

"Go ahead," Zahra said quickly.

"Yeah, we're ready," JC added innocently. Joey just shook his head and resumed the paused DVD. The group quieted down and settled into watching the movie. The opening scenes began and the movie continued without any further interruption.

Half an hour into the movie, the distant sound of a cell phone reached the ears of the group. Lance was the first one to pick up on the sound.

"Hey, someone's phone is ringing," he informed everyone else. The others strained their ears to recognize the ring tone.

"That's mine!" Zahra said suddenly as she got up and rushed out of the room. In her rush she pushed JC forward and almost tripped as she tried to make her way towards her purse, which was still in the kitchen. Luckily, she was able to answer her phone before the other person hung up.

Joey paused the movie once again and the guys waited for Zahra to return.

"She's really cool, you know that right?" Lance asked, turning to JC.

"Of course I know that." JC answered without hesitation. "But I wanna thank you guys for talking sense into me before. I could have made huge mistake."

"That's what we're here for buddy," Chris said, patting JC on the shoulder. "Whenever you act like an ass, we'll let you know. I mean, what else are friends for."

Before JC could respond with a sarcastic comment, a loud scream came from the kitchen. JC made a beeline for the kitchen, fearing the worst. The other guys were right behind him.

"Zahra?" JC called out. "What's wrong? What happened?" JC entered the kitchen and was met with the site of an ecstatic Zahra jumping up and down. She let out another scream and JC realized that nothing was wrong. With his heart still pounding, he waited for her to get off the phone.

"I can't believe this. This is awesome! Congratulations to you! Ahhh!" Zahra spoke excitedly into the phone. "Of course, we'll do something! Ok, I'll talk to you tomorrow!" Zahra clicked off her phone and turned to see the five guys looking at her expectantly.

"So? What was that about?" Joey asked impatiently.

"I just found out that Raaz's album went gold!!"

"Congrats!" JC said happily. He knew what an accomplishment that was for a new artist. He quickly remembered the first time their album went gold. In his opinion, Zahra wasn't being loud enough. JC quickly stepped forward and engulfed Zahra in a big hug. Soon she was enveloped by the entire group as the congratulated her over and over again.

"Thanks you guys," Zahra said with a huge smile once everyone had let go of her and she could breath again. She took a deep breath and calmed herself down. "All right, lets go back to that movie now.

"What?? Nooo, we should go out an celebrate!" Justin insisted.

"Yeah!" Joey added on.

"But I'm not dressed to go out and we didn't finish the movie," Zahra pointed out.

"Hmm, that is a good point, but Justin is right, we should go out," JC said thoughtfully.

"How about we go watch the movie and you leave the celebration up to me?"

"And why is that," Chris asked curiously.

"You'll see. Don't think something isn't already in the works. Raaz's people are arranging stuff as we speak. Now on to the movie!" The group trudged back to the media room and settled in to watch the rest of the movie.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
JC hung up the phone with a sigh. That had been the fifth conversation he had had with one of his friends. Apparently word had gotten out that he was back in town for a good while. Everyone wanted to call him and check in with him. It wasn't that JC minded talking with his friends, it was just that after the third time of explaining how things were going got to be somewhat mundane. If JC had been smart, he would have invited everyone over the first few days he was in town. That way everyone would know how his life had been going at the same time.

Just as JC was getting up to head up stairs, the phone rang again. He was very tempted to just let it ring, but he reluctantly answered it anyway.

"Hello?" JC said, putting the receiver to his ear.

"C! It's Justin, did you check your mail today?" Justin said quickly over the phone.

"No, not yet, why?"

"Just go look at it right now and tell me if you got your yet."

"Justin, what the hell are you talking about?" JC asked exasperatedly. Sometimes Justin's youthful exuberance was lost on JC.

"Just put the phone down and go check your mail. I'll hold," Justin said matter-of-factly.

JC knew Justin wasn't about to give up anytime soon, seeing as how he was the most stubborn person on earth.

"Okay, yeah, hold on then." JC reluctantly put the phone on its side on the counter. He walked swiftly towards the front door and headed to his mailbox. Sure enough, the mail had arrived. JC grabbed the stack and headed back inside as he sifted through the mail. There was the usual junk mail and a few important letters. The last thing in the pile was a small square envelope. The paper was nice and it looked like an invitation.

JC set the rest of mail down on his kitchen counter and picked up the phone. He put it back to his ear as he turned over the envelope. It was addressed to him, but had no return address on the counter.

"Okay, I checked my mail." JC spoke into the phone.

"And? Did you get it?" Justin asked anxiously. JC started opening the envelope. On the inside it was lined in a silver material. He pulled out a card and read over it quickly.

"You mean the invite?" JC replied finally.

"Yeah! It's for a party, celebrating Raaz's first gold album." Justin sounded very excited about the whole thing.

"That's cool. Did we all get one?" JC asked, flipping over the invitation a few times.

"Yeah. Why aren't you more excited about this?"

"I am, it's really cool. Do you think Zahra will go to this with me? I really want us to be a couple in front of other people, as stupid as that sounds." JC said thoughtfully. The past few days, JC had been thinking about his relationship. He was having a blast with Zahra, but it didn't feel like a normal relationship for him. Ever since his whole music career began, JC felt himself craving normality in a world where the word normal didn't exist. He wanted to let the world know that he had such an awesome girlfriend, but he knew he couldn't do that to Zahra. She would have been slaughtered alive by the media and it wouldn't be fair to their relationship. JC would have settled for keeping a low profile, but not hiding either. Unfortunately, they couldn't do that either. Zahra's commitments and his kept that from happening like the way she couldn't go as his date to the VMAs.

"I don't know, man. I'm sure she'll be there though. You'll still get to hang with her." Justin said reassuringly.

"Yeah, but that's not enough. I want us to go together."

"I know, C. Just give it time. If it's meant to happen, it will." Justin tried to console his friend. All of the guys had been through similar situations and it was always the worst when they really cared about the other person.

"I hope you're right. I think I'm going to try asking Zahra anyway and see what she says."

"Okay, good luck!" Justin said supportively. It would be devastating to see something like this come between the couple, Justin thought to himself.

"Thanks. I'll talk to you later then. Bye!" JC hit the off button and then the talk button again. He quickly dialed Zahra's number without psyching himself out too much.

"Hello?" Zahra's voice answered, sounding a bit groggy.

"Hey, Zahra? It's Josh. Did I wake you up?" JC's voice was full of puzzlement, seeing as it was 3 in the afternoon.

"Hey, Josh!" Zahra's voice cleared up some, but JC could tell she was trying to stifle a yawn. "I guess I just dozed off or something. That'll be the last time I attempt to read that book," Zahra said, trying to be humorous.

"What book?" JC asked inquisitively.

"Oh, funny you should ask that, I don't even remember what it's called, hold on let me check." JC waited quietly as he heard some rustling over the phone. "Pride and Prejudice."

"What were you doing reading that?"

"Um, I figured I'd enlighten myself," Zahra answered casually.

"Right," JC said skeptically. "Anyway, I wanted to ask you something."

"Ask away."

"Okay, well I checked my mail and I got an invitation from Raaz."

"You got it already? Awesome! You can come right?" Zahra asked excitedly.

"Yeah, of course, but I was wondering if you'd go with me. I mean, I know you're going already, but maybe we could go together?" JC asked, his voice full of hope.

"Yes! We can do that," Zahra answered happily. "I'll just tell Raaz I have my own ride."

"Great! I was so worried you'd say no." JC admitted with a sigh of relief.

"I know, Josh, it's so hard. I promise I'm going to try to make it easier for us."

"Aww, Zahra, its not like it's your fault or anything. Don't worry about it, we'll just find ways of getting around it. Trust me, I'm not giving you up that easily. But I'm glad that I can take you to this thing. Are you sure it'll be okay with Raaz?"

"Don't worry about that. It'll be fine, I'm sure of it."

"All right, we have a date then! I'll pick you up at 7, how's that?"

"Perfect! I can't wait!" Zahra said happily. JC smiled just hearing the happiness in Zahra's voice. He wished that he could always have the ability to make her sound that happy.

"Me either!" JC said, joining in Zahra's enthusiasm.

"You're not making fun of me, are you, Josh?" Zahra asked.

"Of course not! Can't I be happy too?"

"Hmm, well I suppose so," Zahra replied reluctantly. "I'll let it go this time, but if I find out that you're mocking me….let's just say, I'll get you buddy."

JC laughed at Zahra's threat. She had threatened him more times than he could remember. Each time he found it as enduring as the first. He loved the way she honestly believed she could take him or one of his other friends on in a fight.

"Yes, I have yet to experience your wrath, but anyway, before we get into this argument again, I need to get going. I have a date to prepare for!" JC said gallantly.

"Lucky girl," Zahra murmured. "Okay, I'll talk to you later then. Take care!"

JC let out a small grunt. Zahra had once again managed to get the last word in. He constantly found himself reminding her what a wonderful person she was but it was almost as if she refused to believe him. She would always put herself down or not face the fact that he was totally infatuated with her. Like just now, she said 'lucky girl' instead of admitting that she was the one he was getting ready for.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
At exactly 7 o'clock, JC knocked on Zahra's front door and waited. From inside somewhere, he heard Zahra call out.

"It's open! Come in!"

JC tentatively tested the lock on the door and found it to be open. He pushed open the door and stepped inside. As he walked through the foyer, JC realized how seldomly he came to Zahra's house. Usually Zahra was the one to come over to his house. Either that or they went out somewhere.

"I'll be down in 2 minutes!"

JC's head turned towards the source of the voice. All JC saw was an empty staircase so he returned to inspecting the house. JC thought back to his first time in Zahra's house and the impression he had gotten. Now as he looked at the décor, he saw Zahra's personality shining through in every aspect. The bold colored walls and the eclectic decorating pieces reflected how versatile Zahra's interests were. It amused JC to notice how many of these things he had missed before he had gotten to know Zahra.

"Okay, sorry about making you wait," Zahra said breathlessly. JC turned his body to face Zahra but let his eyes linger on framed collection of autographs that JC had never seen before. When his eyes finally landed on Zahra, he felt his heart skip a beat. She looked absolutely gorgeous and JC was having a hard time finding his voice to let her know. "What?"

"You look, wow. I mean, wow," JC sputtered. JC marveled at Zahra's dress. She was wearing a black a-line, satin skirt with a black lace corset bodice. Her hands and arms were adorned in long, black gloves that came above her elbow. Around her shoulders sat a delicate lace wrap. Zahra had her hair piled up on her head with soft tendrils falling carelessly around her neck. A delicate black necklace rested on her neck, falling in between her collarbone.

JC watched Zahra walk down the stairs and spin around once for him. Surprisingly, it was the first time he had seen her so dressed up and glamorous looking. He had always appreciated her practical beauty before, seeing her in casual dress clothes or just plain jeans and shirts. Tonight, she looked absolutely breathtaking. Subconsciously, JC smoothed his hands over his jacket collar.

"You look really handsome," Zahra said shyly. She stepped forward and gingerly placed her hands over JC's. She helped him straighten out his collar. JC let his own hands drop to the side and watched carefully as Zahra concentrated on pulling his shirt collar out on top of his jacket collar.

As JC stood their watching Zahra fix his shirt, a realization dawned on him. Suddenly it all made sense, the horrible nightmare, the worrying afterwards, the interest in Raaz to the point of near obsession. He had focus on everything but the issue at hand. Without even mulling it over for a second, JC decided to act on impulse. He had already taken way too long in reaching this point.

"Zahra?"

"Hmm?" Zahra didn't look up from her task. When JC didn't respond further, she broke her gaze away to look him in his eyes. "What is it Josh?"

JC could hear the concern in her voice. If he didn't spit it out soon, he would have her in a worried frenzy.

"I don't know why it didn't hit me sooner, but I think, now wait, I'm sure I'm falling in love with you." With those words said, JC looked into Zahra's eyes, trying to read her reaction. A soft tendril of hair fell forward onto her face and JC instinctively reached up to push it back. He let his let hand linger against Zahra's face and he felt her nuzzle her face further into his hand. Her right hand came up around his left on and JC knew that she returned his feelings. "I love you, Zahra." This time the words were easier to say.

"I love you too," Zahra said in a choked voice. She closed her eyes and inhaled JC's scent. That was all JC needed to hear. Without a second's hesitation, JC leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers. Immediately their bodies conformed to each other's in a perfect way. JC had noticed before how well Zahra seemed to fit with him. The two of them stood in the middle of Zahra's house and kissed passionately as if they were seeing each other after a really long separation. They both had just declared their love for each other out loud. JC didn't know how long Zahra had felt like this, but he knew he had felt love all along with her, it just took him this long to recognize it. Sharing a kiss now was like kissing for the first time. It was even more exciting, knowing that they had reached a new level in their relationship.

Reluctantly, JC pulled back from their embrace and breathlessly looked at Zahra. He knew she was a mirror image of the emotions he was feeling. She smiled warmly at him and JC felt his heart melt.

"Um, we should probably go," Zahra said, disappointment lining her voice.

"You're probably right." JC ran his left thumb over Zahra's lips and gave them another quick kiss before stepping back. "Any lipstick on me? We don't want anyone to get the wrong idea or anything." JC gave Zahra a devilish smile

"Wrong idea? You mean like thinking you like to wear make-up?" Zahra asked innocently, but the innocent act didn't last long. She broke out into an evil smile of her own. "But you're good to go, no lipstick. Thank you Lipfinity."

"Good. So shall we go, m'lady?" JC held his arm out for Zahra to link her own to. As soon as she did, he led her towards the front door and the two of them were off to the night's gala.

JC looked around the room and saw about a hundred guests mingling with each other. It was definitely and intimate gathering and JC enjoyed it. There were no flashes of cameras or annoying questions being thrown in anyone's faces. The people he saw in the room were definitely people who were photographed often. The room contained some really big names in the music business as well as important people from other fields. JC was impressed at the celebrities Raaz managed to invite. He knew all of these people didn't live in Orlando so they must have either been in the area or flown in.

"Having fun?"

JC was pulled out of his thoughts by a pat on the back and Chris's voice. He turned around to see the rest of his group circling around him.

"Yeah, it's great! Do you see all the people here?"

"Tell me about it. This chick has got some really good connections, especially for hiding her face and everything," Lance said. He had spent the last 20 minutes talking business with a production manager of a mid-sized company. It was a good opportunity for him to take another step into Hollywood.

"Oh this is so awesome, I walk around the room and everyone wonders you the heck I am and what I'm doing here," Zahra said, joining the group.

"I haven't had that feeling in a really long time. I so envy you," Justin said, aquinting his eyes into a fake glare.

"Whatever man, whatever." Zahra waved Justin off casually. "Oh, I totally forgot, I gotta go and help Raaz. She should be out in like 10 minutes."

"I was wondering when she was going to show," Joey said.

"She'll be here soon. I'll see you guys in a few." Zahra gave JC a quick kiss on the lips and waved behind herself as she made her way through the clouds. JC followed her with his eyes until she slipped into a door that was just past the small stage set up near the front of the room.

The guys continued to talk and mingle for the next ten minutes. Suddenly, the lights on the stage sprang to life and the crowd turned their attention from each other to the stage. White, purple and green lights that moved in circular patterns lined the stage and small silver curtains parted to allow a cloaked figure to emerge. Underneath the cloak, the figure wore a straight grayish silver skirt. The cape covered the rest of the outfit.

"Hi everyone," the voice spoke in the soft Southern accent that everyone recognized. "My name is Raaz and I'd like to welcome you all here tonight." A light applause filled the room. "I know all of you are probably wondering what you're doing here or why you're even here. Tonight is a special occasion for me. I found out recently that the album I released a few months ago has reached the diamond mark. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen to me. This room is filled with great artists and successful people who have all achieved their dreams. I could only hope to have an ounce of that success. The reason I've gathered you all here is to thank you. Each person here has helped me to get to this part in my life. Some of you may not even know that you've helped me, but if you're here, you have. My "situation" has been a different one and I appreciate everything all of you have done for me.

Along with thanking you, I'd like to like to get rid any formalities there might be. All of you have opened your hearts to me and allowed me in. I can only hope to return the favor. So tonight, I'd like to put 'Raaz' aside and introduce you to me. Oh and you'll have to excuse me, I suppose I have a tendency for the dramatic."

The room let out a light laugh as they held their breath. It was almost hard to comprehend what was going on.

JC looked at Raaz, dumbfounded. If this had happened even a month ago, he would have been ecstatic. It was exactly what he had wanted, but things had changed. As he started at the figure on stage, JC realized he didn't share the crowd's anticipation. He was happy with what he had and he had no desire to watch the cloak come off.

"Guys, I'm going to take a walk," JC said suddenly. He quietly exited the main room and wandered up and down the hallway. It was nice being there by his self, away from the crowd.

JC lost track of time as he settled on a particular part of the hallway. He leaned against the wall and mulled over everything. A little while later, he heard soft footsteps approaching him. JC kept his eyes on the ground until a pair of gray sandals came into his line of vision. Slowly he raised his head and followed the line of the skirt, up to the white sequined, long-sleeved top. Finally he saw her.

"Hi."

"Hey," JC said warmly. He knew the light was different, but not different enough to make her outfits appear different. "So it's you?"

"Yeah. Are you mad? I saw you leave the room from the stage."

"No, I'm not mad. I just wanted to walk around some." JC remained in his spot against the wall. He suddenly broke out into a wide smile as he reflected back on all his encounters with Zahra. "This clears up a lot of things, but I have a question."

"Yeah?"

"Who is that you always talked on the phone with about 'Raaz'? You always talked about her in the third person."

"Oh that. It would be different people, sometimes my manager, and sometimes my friend. I guess we made it rule to talk about Raaz in the third person, just in case."

"That makes sense. So, wait, this means you write, produce and sing all your own material. That so awesome." JC continued to talk about everything but how he felt about Zahra being Raaz. For some reason, it didn't affect him as much as he thought it would. Maybe it was because he was no longer obsessed with Raaz, or maybe because deep down he had always known.

"Thanks. Josh, are you sure you're not mad or upset or something?"

For the first time, JC looked up at Zahra and saw fear in her eyes. He didn't like seeing that at all.

"I'm positive. As long as I have you, nothing matters." JC reached his arm and encircled Zahra's waist. He pulled her towards himself. "Besides, how can I be mad if I'm going out with the latest musical phenomenon. You have a great voice, by the way. Why'd you hide that beautiful face of yours?"

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. I really wanted to, but I couldn't. It all started with the contract I signed. My manager approached them with the idea and they thought it was a good one. I went along because I love to sing, but the thought of being out on stage in front of everyone freaks me out. This way I could do what I love and keep a low profile. I never counted on meeting and falling in love with you. It was so hard when I had to mislead you or hide things from you. Then I thought that tonight would be a good time to tell you. You completely through me off with what you said at my house."

"Aw, Zahra, relax. It's all good. I still love you. Everything just makes a whole lot more sense. Everyone has their things they have to go through. I totally understand. In fact, I'm jealous you get to have a private life that stays private."

"You're the best, Josh." Zahra leaned her forehead against JC's and smiled.

"You're the bestest." JC moved his lips closer to Zahra's and locked her in a passionate embrace in the middle of the hallway. JC pulled back for a second when another question crossed his mind. "Your accent. It comes and goes?"

"It's faint most of the time. I tried to not have it when I wasn't Raaz," Zahra murmered.

He realized that he was in love with someone who shared his passion in life without being in the spotlight, not directly anyway. Life was good, JC thought happily.

THE END

That's it, the end...what do you all think???
