The teen cub saw Sierra fall, and was distracted for a moment as he called out to her, but his attention was drawn back to the deer as he leaped back to dodge a flying hoof. Then, when she came back, Keso saw what she was trying to do and he snapped at the doe's other leg, trying to help Sierra bring her down.

Akira latched onto the animal's throat, and latched on, sinking his teeth deep into the place where life flowed closest to the surface. Then he felt a stabbing pain as the doe's foreleg kicked him hard on his underside. The pain dazed his vision, and his head swam a bit, but he bit down harder on the doe. He threw his weight into the doe, trying to knock it over. Akira ignored the pain in his stomach.
