I gotta broadband story my ownself. Here--copied from my e-mail to a tird or two.

I have downgraded from Platinum Digital Cable to Basic Digital Cable. This reduces my TV input from 450 channels to 170 channels. Woe is me. By adding the cable Internet access, my Comcast bill goes up by $10 a month. I'm paying $20 a month for AOL.

Comcast has a $100 installation fee. To which I said, "I'll just install it myself."

Comcast lady said, "We don't offer self-installations."

I said, "You're giving me a box that you will plug my cable line and my Ethernet line into. Why would I pay you to do something my six year old nephew could do?"

Comcast lady said, "Because you are a valued customer, we are prepared to wave the installation charge in a one time limited offer. Just please let our guys do it."

I said, "I can take off work early on Tuesday. How does 3:00 sound?"

Comcast lady said, "Whatever is convenient for you, ma'am."

I'm feeling very cocky about this whole situation. Expect random acts of broadband e-mail soon and very soon.

fortunately the installation was free for us. Otherwise it would have been the same conversation. We already had three computers (his, mine, kids) all connected to a central router when the guy got here. We've since ditched the kids computer and they share mine.

a full month passed and I couldnt stand it any longer. I called and demanded to know why I hadnt gotten my conversion CD. Charter.net tech support people are idgits. Go to yer uh... computer and right click. I am already in my network settings rattling off stuff. GIMME TIER 2 SERVICE PLEASE... oh what a relief. New settings (sans conversion CD) a push to my modem and viola!! I have cable again.

now I gotta catch up on my music collection.

It's not Top 10 stuff (yet) but if you are patient you can find lots of good music there.
