To start, I agree with what Magus said...
>Players will have to search for the more powerful
>[spells]. Even sorcerers might have to learn them from
>someone else first.
I think with magic viewed the way it is in Faalor, all spells should have to be found or
learned from someone else.
>Item creation feats should involve small quests to
>find the components needed to create the item. It
>should never be easy....
In my opinion there should be no "magic shops" or whatever you want to call them.
First off I do not think the church would allow it. If there WAS a place to buy magic
items it would probably be very 'hush-hush' and only known about by a select few.
Prices to be extravagant, admittance by password or invitation only.
I also agree with Chris said about owning a magic item being illegal. I think the
church would definitely have some sort of restriction on the ownership of magic
items. High or favored priests could perhaps own a few "sanctioned" items.
However, I think if I PC is caught packing vorpal, there should be some serious
trouble.
As far as the division between the divine and arcane magics, I think divine magic
should be restricted little if at all. Why would divine magic be lessened because the
all powerful Church frowns on the arcane? Arcane magic users have their own
powers in Faalor, some that the Church cannot match. However, it will be a VERY
difficult road for a magic user to go in this world. That's just how things are in
Faalor. I trust in Lee enough to know that he would not have invited a hoard of
Power Gamers to his campaign. If clerics are much easier to gain power with than a
mage, so what? It makes perfect sense, so why change it?
In summary:
***Magic items, doubleplusRARE! and a helping of rare on the side. oh, and
illegal.
***Spells, rare! You actually have to find them, quest to research them, learn them
from others, or do without.
***Clerics, well clerics are just clerics.
