They are a no brainer because on artistic merit alone. "London Calling" is considered one of the best albums ever, and I believe was named top album of the 1980's by Rolling Stone. If the Talking Heads made this year, you can be sure that the Clash will no doubt be in.

Another one that I forgot is Hall and Oates. To me, they should be in there. They were a dominant force in pop music from 1976 to 1990, including six number one hits, and 16 top tens, and twenty-nine top 40's. However, they're seems to be a backlash against them. I saw a recent review of their greatest hits album and it was given three stars. Not horrible, but certainly the reviewer was not impressed with them. It seems that there music is not standing the test of time

It seems that groups from that time that were popular have been pigeonholed as artisically lacking. REO, Styx, Journey have all been crucified by critics. I feel that Hall and Oates not only dominated the pop charts, they also transcended the R&B charts in a way that few white groups have been able to do. I really hope that they make it in, though it seems that they should have had their first year of eligibility last year.
