Subject: His Travels

His eyes scanned the horizon
blazing through the space
to lands he'd never seen.

I wrapped my arms
tightly around my middle
and looked up at him
looking away.

The breeze blew-
lifted the ends of my
newly white hair
to scatter around my face
and land on my painted mouth.

He didn't feel me watching him
or he didn't let on-

I could feel the tug at my throat-
and water settled
in my eyes
daring me to blink.

I told him he'd let the wind
carry him away
and he smiled
and pulled me into a hug.

Though his arms were around me
he wasn't-
he'd begun his travels-

and only then did i let silent tears fall.
