here's a sonnet i wrote... it isn't perfect, but i kind of dig it.

once 'twas thee, and only thee, i held dear
spoke tenderly to thee, present or not
once i felt warmth whenever you were near
there once was a time when 'twas you i sought
suddenly from thy lips sprang an untruth
your pocket well silvered at my expense
i was made a boor; foolish and uncouth
with nary a man to speak in my defense.
bring thyself never again to my table
though numerous meals before we have shared
i wish to be far from thee as i'm able
regretting that once my heart was to thee bared
the foulness of thy deed sour rings in my ears
and ugly it looks to eyes blurred by tears.
