Subject: HMS CARDIFF, alongside Liverpool Docks 1999

HMS CARDIFF, alongside in Liverpool dock. Had my leave stopped for a bit of an indiscretion. Sat in a mess full of English officers. A Welsh Lieutenant, Sub-Lieutenant and Midshipman, having been subjected to nearly a full day of mindless wax jacket & green welly snobbery. Turned round to get the beers in, jokingly stating, "You watch Gibbsy pull it out the bag". Big Cheer on telly, 3 delirious junior officers, beer on the wardroom ceiling, much digit based gesturing, song,and shore leave denied for a further, now indefinate period!
