Whole house humidifiers can be had. How old is your furnace? If it's not keeping up it isn't suit for your application. My electric furnace is only a few years old and has humidifier and dehumidifier functions along with several UV lights in the filter chamber and ducts. They work independently of what the furnace/ac is doing. When seasons change here it can go form 90% humidity to 30% in a matter of days. I keep my home at 45% all the time. Your wood burning is still putting out particles that aren't healthy and electricity generated by clean sources is the only way to insure positive air quality impact. You can do what you like, again, just don't claim to be as green as you think you are. For your health you need a more stable environment, but that's up to you. If it's more economic for you then environmental at least admit it.
