One can run a alternater from their vehicle intermittantly or all the time for very little gas also almost every one where we live has a generator which they do not run all the time but do fill off and on to keep their fridges and freezers cold . If one keeps the doors closed it does not take more than a few min running the generator to keep the foods cold or frozen also they are able to have a few lights on . My hubby rigged me up a light to read by with a car battery. We used to have a small 12 ft aluminum boat that we ran with a elecric motor so had a couple extra batteries. Like the quiteness of that type of boating far over the 18 ft catermaran boat with two 50 horse power motors we got rid of shortly after buying many years ago to noisy and smelly . our favorite boating was canoeing .
