I don't see how there can be any doubt about my opinion of the justice system. It is about making money and nothing more.

Punishment is no longer a viable concept and it pretty much ignores the psychology of people who break the law, either by accident or on purpose. I think our concept of crime and punishment is based on the idea that some portion of the population is simply beyond social redemption and must be controlled through force and intimidation.

In my view, most offenders consider the whole thing a game of sorts -- them against our agents (the law) and if they take a fall, no big deal -- free food and shelter for a while, then back into the game with more knowledge and skill.

Of course, the jillions of people who make a living off our system of justice see no reason to revisit the concept. What is odd is that most people try to do right because of morals and ethics and not from fear of the law. Those who have no morals or ethics (or who have selective morals and ethics) do whatever they do and think the legal system is merely an inconvenience.

I guess to them, it is. But ouir punishmnet amounts to no more than an inconvenience for them, so what's the sense?
