I find something very interesting, Like I said, I have been a part of UBF for about 5 years, and while I cant discredit those who say that they were abused, I just haven't seen it myself. What I am about to tell you all is the truth, I started dating a girl just before I came to UBF, and while the members of the church cautioned us to stay pure, no one has ever even hinted at trying to break us up or marry someone else, ever. No one has ever told me to give them money outside of the normal parameters of what a Christian should give (Believe me). NO one has ever tried to pull me away from my family, infact many people pray all the time for the unbelieving members of my family that they may believe in Jesus (Not come to UBF, I am the only one in my family in UBF, although the members in my family can very much see my changed life from a drug addict and sex addict and overall punk, to a growing disciple of my Lord Jesus Christ). No one has told me not to go to seminary, even though I realize that very few in the ministry have gone. Honestly, it is very hard for me to discern if some of you are telling the truth or not (I am just being honest). I told you before that I think outside of the box, especially the UBF box, so I can very easily see how things could be taken the wrong way by people who are exposed to the old school Korean missionaries who may very well be authoritative in nature. I pose to any of you a question, How can anybody force you to do something you dont want to do ? (please do not answer with a response of brainwashing or brain wave manipulation, because they would have to be a darn good hypnotist to make me break up with my fionce, or leave my family, or give up seminary) No one there has ever even tried to do this! I mean it. How can someone force another person to get an abortion? Did they hold a gun to the person's head? This is America, in this country we are free. If any one of those things were done to me by someone in UBF, I would be out the door faster than you could say "Friday Meeting." But I am an objective observer, because UBF is not the only church that I attend, I also go to Willow Creek on occasion and Harvest Bible Chapel as well, I have a great network of Christian friends from all kinds of different ministries, and although I see many problems within UBF as in any church, I just haven't seen anything close to what is charged, and I would think that I would have seen or experienced at least something in the 5 years that I have been deeply involved. Is it possible, just possible that at least some things have been blown a little out of proportion? Thankyou and May Jesus be with you.
