You should know that UBF is different from any ordinary Catholic or Protestant church. Here are some of the differences:

- UBF as no ordained ministers who have studied theology, instead is run by laymen who demand absolute obedience
- twisted and one-sided theology
- contrary to any normal church, serves only a very restricted clientele, namely university students (preferably young, preferably white)
- no activity in charity work or coworking with other churches
- authoritarian hierarchy that is unquestionable
- unaccountability of leaders in all areas
- unbiblical shepherding/discipling practices
- manipulation of people using cult mind control methods

These and other characteristics of UBF classify it as a cult.

The problem will be that your son has probably been "love bombed" and now believes that UBF is his "true family" and in UBF are his "true friends." (In reality, they don't care about him - people are only important for UBF if they serve to fill the seats, give offering mnoey and recruit new members.) He also won't listen to you anymore, because he believes you are a part of the ungodly Satan-ruled world and only want to deter him from worshipping God. He thinks because he makes "Bible study" he knows the Bible better than you or any Catholic or Protestant church member.

My advices for discussions with your son: Don't criticize things in UBF which are against Catholic tradition. Criticize things which are against the Bible. UBF claims (this is only a claim) that the Bible is their highest measure stick (whereas in reality, their own organization and its leaders are more important than the Bible). So he will listen to you only if you argue based on the Bible. It will be difficult to show him the problems, because at a first glance, UBF looks very Biblical. But if you look a little bit deeper, it is very unbiblical. Everything revolves only about human honor and power and recruiting more people into UBF.

My second advice: Get informed about UBF and cults in general. You will find many informations about ubf on ubf-info.de and rsqubf.fortunecity.net.

A true life-safer may be the book Combatting Cult Mind Control or Releasing the Bonds, both by Steven Hassan. Please get one of them, preferably "Releasing the bonds" and read it carefully. It not only explains what cult mind control is, but also gives many advices what to do and what not to do.
