As I mentioned on the Lafayette Board, to my knowledge there has been no such letter to alumni but the subject has been brought up at virtually every Presidential Search Committee meting with alumni.
Our booster organization, I understand, has been very active in promoting scholarships, and opposition to the no scholarship policy is becoming more organized to the extent I believe it will effect fund raising next year.
As was previously posted on the Lafayette Board there has been at least one attempt to get the board to vote on the issue and it was stonewalled according to reports. So I believe the votes may be there to pass it!
Next board meeting is Oct.

Today's Baltimore Sun:

"Lafayette College, one of the few schools playing Division I basketball that doesn't provide athletic scholarships, may review that policy, the school’s alumni association said in a letter to graduates.

"School spokesman Roger Clow said the policy of Lafayette, a member of the Patriot League located in Easton, Pa., is to remain true to the founding principles of the league, which barred scholarships. The league, founded in 1986, now allows scholarships except in football."
