I don't think Dick Vitale would say that UVM @ HC is a great game.

No one cares what Vitale thinks...from a HC perspective it is a good game.

Cheers.

He does not recognize anyone outside the top 5 conferences. How can he be considered a great ambassador for college hoops when he completely ignores 75% of division 1? What about his outspoken support for some of the biggest cheaters and louts among d-1 coaches? How about him ranting on ESPN after our close loss to Kentucky a couple of years ago how UMASS should sign Ralph Willard(who was UNDER CONTRACT with HC)?

Vitale is a lightning rod announcer...he says wacky things and acts like a nut, which intrigues and angers many more millions into watching hime. It is sort of like the Howard Stern effect, tons of people watch him/listen to him b/c they can't stand him but can't wait to see what he will say or do next.

Unfortunately Dick Vitale does not come close to Stern in entertainment value....Vitale is pure, unadulterated annoyance...just like the brick/stone of concentrated evil at the end of Time Bandits...to touch it is to die, just like listening to Vitale commentatary.

Cheers.

Vitale may be a nice fundraiser, but I'll take 1843's side here-- he's annoying and ignorant as a commentator.

[> Re: When is the hoop schedule released? -- UVM--Great Game?, 15:12:18 06/27/04 Sun

Problem is HC1843 and bbfan are both right. Under the recent scheduling pattern, a home game with an NCAA invitee of the previous two years is a step-up. From the historical perspective, it's a game against a "Northern" Yankee Conference opponent---probably the 10th or 11th rated game out of 12 home games in most schedules from the fifties until the early nineties. The fact that it probably is in the top third of the new home schedule says everything there is to say about the PL, i.e. that virtually every game on this year's home schedule but Princeton and, perhaps, Iona would have been in the bottom
half of the schedules from '46-'47 to '89-'90.
