He didn't even know what was going on in his head, there was no way in hell anyone else could have any clue. If they did, well, pity on them, it must be a horrible thing to even know how fucked up he was...

"Go ahead and turn yourself in - not that it matters what I say anyway - but don't think that it's going to make everything disappear for Adam." If that was what he needed to do, fine, but Adam would just get pegged with conspiracy or something along those lines, which obviously wouldn't be as bad as manslaughter, but it would end up with both of them in jail rather than just one.
