They weren't going to get manslaughter, his lawyer was dreaming - if he got charged at all it was going to be homicide and that was a good 25 year sentance if he got off easily. He couldn't live with the guilt if that happened, he'd kill himself with the sheer burden of pain he would feel if not with some more drastic measure.
