How do the numbers compare to what was proposed for Athletics Expansion?

Let's see: The students are now asked to pay three times as much (a $6-per-credit-hour student life initiative fee, $2 of which would fund annual operation costs for the event center) and the estimated construction costs are "around $38 million," assuming the administration can get any companies to bid in that range for the 6500 seat facility. In case anyone has forgotten, that is on the order of ten times as much as was proposed for the "spartan" facilities option for athletics expansion.

Don't get me wrong- I'm all for it, but this plan will only make sense if there are some MAJOR outside contributions towards the $38 million, lots of students attending events, and a quick follow-on move to add women's soccer, women's golf and division 1 football.

Happily, I am not the only one thinking and saying this. Some of the big movers for the arena are singing the same song.

btw: I was surprised not to see this discussed on the other board.
