Date Posted: 23:31:23 02/25/02 Mon In reply to: Patrick 's message, "phil, phil, phil..." on 22:14:18 02/25/02 Mon ok, i doubt very much whether he doesn't pay any of his employees as i'm pretty sure they would all leave and not just you, so i'm guessing this is a slight exageration. however, as i do not know the full details of this i won't press any further. No exaggeration! I can get at least two other people to back me up on it too. I used to do Blast flyers (like the one here, which the guy was never happy with, and he'd only pay me for things I produced, not by hours worked, which was going against what was in my contract at the time. as for my comment for them being one of the biggest labels, i meant to put the word independent in there. and they are expanding, he's just home from australia, thailand and other asian countries where he's secured the rights to release treasure island records and set up blast venues. that's quite impressive i think. also, most businesses have to be run at some sort of loss before they take off, that's what being an entrepreneur is all about. I agree, companies do have to run at a loss, however, this guy is ignoring advice from people around him - put fewer, more high quality gigs on to keep people interested was one thing I suggested to him, and he blatantly ignores them, usually doing the opposite. He'd make a GREAT entrepeneur... if money was no object. How is he going to finance these great expansions to the far east and Oceania though? And there were people using the same venues as Blast LONG before RS came on the scene - one Aidan Walsh, for instance - one of the people responsible for Temple Bar being the "cultural quarter" (and flea pit, more recently) of Dublin. i know rory well and know he is not the type of person to insult somebody for no good reason, i can only assume you did something to deserve it but again as i don't know i'll leave it at that. We were to have a meeting, and I couldn't attend because I had school, followed by a doctors appointment, and he blatantly disregarded this. Let's just say, at the time, I had physical and mental health issues, and this was one of the things he decided to insult me about. as for my comment on taking english lessons, this was an insult not to be taken literally but i felt i was justified in saying it as putting the word label in inverted commas was just just plain wrong and if i'm to take it literally then it's the worstest english grammer i've ever heard. so, if you want to argue with me over it, then "bring it on" as they say round here. I don't consider them a label. they don't record themselves, they bring out very few records, those they do are rarely well put together. They have a couple of good gigs every now and then, and they find themselves in financial turmoil more often than not, hence, why i put it in inverted commas. Robbie Stephenson can be described as many things. overly ambitious is one. I can go on... ok, you admit you're wrong about the "crap musically" comment. well, that is pretty decent of you. i don't mind if they don't appeal to you, everybody is quite entitled to their musical opinions, but it's when you personally insult someone is when i have a problem. It's not like me, and if I hadn't already, I apologise. I'm normally one to not take the piss out of people for their taste coz I've had to put up with it for so long - being called hippy, etc. My reasons for insulting them are probably apparent from above. no, i don't think i'm above you, but then again, i have never said anything here to suggest that i do consider my musical and personal opinion of people to be superior to yours. You did suggest that your opinion was more valid than mine, stating things about The Revs which i didn't agree with. In hindsight, however, you seem like a decent chap, and i don't want to argue on that matter much longer. i ALSO am in a band who ALSO play a different style of music who have recorded many demos in our time together. this has nothing to do with jealousy. you may be jealous of their success while still not being envious of them as musicians. On the contrary.. I'm not really aiming to be successful as a musician. it's very much a secondary ambition, and I don't rate my ability. I've only been playing bass about two years. Has your band gigged any? Any name I would recognise? I used to keep up with the scene but being in sixth year I've lost track. I'd be more into the metal end of things too (although, the fact that I'm writing on a Gomez discussion forum would prove the point that I have, what I would consider, a highly eclectic musical palate). I'll ignore the retard statement. I have a tendency to get overly PC when people start firing insults at me, and obviously that one came close to home [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
