I have the Philips VR20D (PAL) and also the service-documentation. The machine is virtually the same as the JVC one. There is no "missing" DV connector: the thing is just in/out, but this facility is disabled so the machine is only DV in. I assume that is being done with the same trick that is being used on cameras. But hen of course the other way around. So somebody has to find a real DV-bus cracker!
By the way, Philips indeed says that they are not allowed to open the DV-out due to agreements with US-authorities!

The D1 (or MPEG-2 ?) connectors are just on the backside (behind a blank sticker), fully wired and probably functioning; however I have no means to test it.
