Check out this web page, it's in Japanese unfortunately but there's a picture showing two iLink ports rated at 200MBit, this might give you a clue.

I reckon the European model just has the IEEE1394 in/out disabled in software, so there's no reason why somebody can't crack the DV In/Out problem. JVC UK's response on the matter is just typical of the sort of crap attitude I've come to expect of British companies. I'd like to see these companies survive more than a few weeks in the States offering customer service and satisfaction like this. My message to all those like myself who are thinking of buying one of these machines is, DONT! Instead email JVC's sales and marketing and tell them you really want one of these units, but until they get their act together and either A. stop ripping off the British public and offer them the same products as available in other parts of the world, or B. publish a public explanation in the Home cinema/television/video press why they cannot offer products to the same specification. Companies understand one language and only one language, SALES! and we the consumers are responsible for those sales. So if you want products that meet your expectations the answer is simple "dont buy the products that JUST COME CLOSE and tell the manufacturers what you really want"
