Subject: D-VHS and 5.1 audio recording compatibility

When I set up my home cinema I want to move everything to a digital format. This includes digital satelite (Sky in UK), DVD and D-VHS (assuming that recordable DVD remains an expensive option for years to come).

I have read that Sky will start to transmit movies in 5.1 audio late in 2001. I would like to know the feasibility of recording the Sky broadcast onto D-VHS including the 5.1 audio. I have a fealing that the D-VHS format is only MPEG1 (i.e. stereo), but can anyone confirm the situation.

Also, do the recordable DVD format (+RW/-RW/-RAM)include the ability to record 5.1 audio. What restrictions does Macrovision copy protection impose on recordable DVD and D-VHS?

Thanks

Dave
