Tapes made using the DirecTV D-VHS VCRs can only be played back using a D-VHS VCR connected to selected DirecTV receivers. The RCA vr911hf, Hitachi VTDX815A, and Hughes HDR205 D-VHS VCRs are the only VCRs manufactured that can playback those tapes for decoding by a DirecTV receiver. No D-VHS VCR that I am aware of can decode those tapes including the JVC HD D-VHS VCRs. It is very unlikely that any future D-VHS VCR will be manufactured capable of playback of tapes made using the vr911hf. All of the DirecTV D-VHS VCRs and D-VHS compatible receivers are now discontinued with no plans for any future models. I own and use these standard definition D-VHS VCRs with excellent results.
