Subject: HDTV Box firewire

I read recently that Direct TV will require a DV port on set top boxes sold after the third quarter of 2002. I assume that this DV port will be firewire. My JVC digital VCR has component and optical digital out, plus firewire in and out on a four pin connector (not six). It says on it that it is fully HDTV compatible and has a "d-Home" logo.

I assume it will interface with Direct TV boxes, even though JVC is linked with the other satellite provider.

My hope is that the generation of boxes after the next will include a HDTV hard disk recorder of at least 100 hour capacity, from which one can archive all forms of digital TV to a digital VCR, through a firewire link. At standard speed, my JVC can record 5 hours of HDTV on a 300 minute DVHS cassette. I am using it now to archive programs from my Sony Ultimate TV box, using S-Video and analog audio pathways.
