Actually, I think ME has an easy out on this part. she burns her magic up. She uses so much of it doing what she has done that she loses her magical power completely and has to go back to computer nerd Willow. I think the SG will havan easier time accepting her back than the fans will. Also think that if they bring her back as an SG they will give her a new lover (midseason).
