Subject: Why people watch

I have heard it said that most people tune into series (either movies or television) to see favored actors in favored roles rather than to see a story. To some degree, I think this is correct.

Often the first criteria I have toward deciding to watch a movie is the star. For example, I love Errol Flynn movies. If he is in it, I will watch it, even if I have no idea what the story is about before watching it.

The success of the new Conan movie, for example, will depend entirely upon whether or not Arnold Schwartzenegger is in it, not on whether they came up with a decent story or not (which they haven't).

So long as the Star Trek cast continues to be willing to reprise their roles, people will come and watch them.
