I don't know about Mark (I haven't read his reply yet), but the main reason I haven't spent a lot of time arguing about Islam is because I don't know a lot about it. I have researched Christianity and Biblical history for a long time, and I have a lot of books, notes, and texts on the subject.

I think any religion is a negative thing, an attempt to conform others to someone else's opinion. I believe in God, but not one any religion I know of would recognize. I certainly do not worship God, because he doesn't require it, IMHO.

I don't think people are inherently evil. The people who did what they did on Sept. 11 thought they were doing a good thing, and from their point of veiw, they may have been doing good. A lot of people have died pointless deaths in the name of religion, be it Christianity (Salem Witch Trials, Crusades, Inquisition), Islam (Terrorist Attacks), Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. Heck, in Ireland, the Catholics and the Protestants routinely engage in terrorism.

Although it wasn't done in the name of religion, what about the number of innocent, civilian lives killed by the USA when we nuked Japan? If that wasn't a terrorist attack, then I don't know what is.

Anyway, I put down Christianity almost exclusively largely because it is the religion I know the most about. I could do a fair argument against Taoism, and perhaps Buddhism, but I know very little about Islam. If all one knows is the propoganda, one should keep his mouth shut.

I do feel all religions are inherently misleading, and cause more unhappiness than is warranted. The main reason people believe in religions is because they were taught to believe in it. I entirely believe the source of a Christian's "faith" is rooted in a life long brainwashing by the church. Christians (and Muslims, and Buddhists, etc) feel afraid to look too closely at the facts surrounding their source material. Religious people are taught to be afraid of losing their religion. Religions only exist when fear is around.

"Fear will keep the systems in line; fear of this battlestation." Likewise, "Fear will keep our flock in line. Fear of Hell."
