I read a good article recently that put the problem in the proper perspective. The media is blaming the problem on the Catholic church's stance on Celibacy for priests. The article I read, which I agree with, puts the blame on homosexuality. Here's a quote from the article:

"While several churches -- Catholic and Evangelical alike -- have turned a blind eye, gays have slowly crept into the clergy, bringing with them a propensity toward pedophilia. Father Richard John Neuhaus said, 'The overwhelming majority of these cases involved homosexuality, but the media steers away.'
Research confirms the disturbing link between pedophilia and homosexuality. In 'The Gay Report', homosexual authors K. Jay and A. Young found that 73% of gays they surveyed had had sexual relations with boys 16-19 years of age. The Clarke Institute of Psychiatry calculated the 34% of the offenders against children were gay.
By bowing to political correctness, the American media is doing the public a grave disservice. If we want to protect our children, it's time we dealt with the 'moral laxity,' as Rev. Neuhaus calls it, in the church at large."
