Well, I liked the movie. It is good, but it isn't what it should have been. When watching it -- I saw many problems.. spoilers ahead. I will say.. some of them in the 3 hour 40 min dvd might be fixed... but here we go.. as I remember them.

1) Gollum is shown not to have been a Hobbit but only "that creature" who found the ring.. no "birthday present" aspect, and no hobbit transformed into evil.

2) Pippin and Merry were not right imo. Their mischief at the party.. to how they joined the Fellowship.. doesn't work. I think they will be fine in TT and ROTK, but in this one sadly no.

3) The story was often too choppy, and though someone who knows LOTR can fill in places, the story itself.. suddenly had things coming out of nowhere and without explanation. I think some of this will be explained in the 40 mins extra on the directurs cut dvd.. I hope so.

4) They ruined Lothlorien. Esp. Galadriel's "transformation scene."

Those are probably the things I remember the most. Taking changes into the story for the sake of change, and not being needed, and then the new version not being as consistent as Tolkien's I was not pleased with. (Did they even mention who Bill the Pony was, until at Moria? I missed it? )Other changes didn't bother me-- Arwen's extra scenes, are understandable and ok with me for example.

On the other hand, the movie is good, despite its flaws. I don't think it is the best movie I have seen, but it still is a good movie.
