There is a difference in how the crucifixion is displayed in children's Sunday School literature and the violence of Gibson's movie. Both are dealing with the same account, yet the target audience is different.

As a youth pastor, I will preach/teach my Jr. High Students differently from how I teach High School or college students. No hypocrisy there, just common sense.

And, just a side note, atheism is really out-dated. Take a step into the Post-modern world. It is difficult to find intelligent "atheists" because their arguments are soft. An atheist can only use deductive reasoning to prove to themselves that there is no God. Credible conclusions can almost never be reached through deductive reasoning.
